Why We Love This Coffee

Recess is hard to beat.

I don't think we ever outgrow the feeling of hearing the school bell ring and realizing it was time to go play. Maybe for you that looks like a pickup basketball game, a run in the neighborhood, or a card game around the table with people you love.

It's that playfulness that inspired Recess.

Most coffee is chocolate-forward, comforting, and familiar. We wanted to create something that felt different—in the best way. Recess is bright, syrupy, candy-sweet, and vibrant.

The other morning when I was drinking Recess, it reminded me of a Wild Berry Pop-Tart (still one of the greatest Pop-Tarts ever made, if you ask me).

This is a coffee we'll have on repeat at our house. We love it as our morning batch brew, but if you haven't tried it over ice on a hot day, you're missing out. It's one of our favorite ways to drink it.
How We Brew It

Recess shines when brewed to balance its lively fruit with its syrupy sweetness. We like a clean extraction that highlights its juicy, candy-like character while keeping the cup sweet and approachable.

Water: 400g (1:16)
Water Temperature: 204–208°F
Brew Time: 3:00–3:20

Brewing Tip

If the cup tastes a little tart or sharp, grind slightly finer to bring out more sweetness. If it starts to taste bitter or loses some clarity, grind a little coarser. When it's dialed in, you should find a syrupy cup with notes of pomegranate, honey, and bright citrus.
